Breaking: Massive French-Language Canada Express Entry Draw Boosts Francophone Pathway 🇨🇦

February 6, 2026 – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has just conducted a large category-based Canada Express Entry draw targeting French-speaking candidates, issuing 8,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence with a low cut-off score of just 400 points under the French-language proficiency stream. The draw used a tie-breaking rule of February 3, 2026 for profiles with the same score.
This unusually high volume and low Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) threshold highlight Ottawa’s continuing effort to attract skilled Francophone talent – a key plank of the federal government’s immigration strategy outside of Quebec. In recent years, IRCC has regularly deployed dedicated French-language draws through Express Entry as a way to bolster Francophone immigration flows, with past rounds issuing thousands of ITAs at sub-500 CRS floors.
IRCC’s 2026 Push to Attract Francophone Immigrants
The latest draw comes as part of a broader set of initiatives by IRCC and the Government of Canada to strengthen French-speaking immigration outside Quebec:
New federal selection spaces: Beginning in 2026, the government will reserve 5,000 additional permanent-resident selection spaces specifically for French-speaking immigrants, enhancing opportunities for Francophone talent in the labour market.
Higher Francophone targets: Under the 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada has set a target for French-speaking permanent resident admissions (outside Quebec) of about 9% in 2026, rising in subsequent years as part of a path toward 12 % by 2029.
Supportive community and pilot programs: Initiatives like the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot, the Welcoming Francophone Communities initiative, and specific Student Pilots help promote settlement, retention and employment in regions across Canada.
These measures reflect a sustained federal commitment to reinforce Canada’s bilingual character, support Francophone minority communities, and ease labour market shortages in sectors where French-speaking skills are valued.
